Barros 10 Years Old Tawny is a blend of selected top vintages, aged on average for ten years in traditional oak casks (pipes). The grapes – including classic varieties such as Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional – come from the terraced schist slopes of the Douro Valley. The house of Barros has a history spanning over 100 years and is particularly renowned for its expertise in wood cask ageing (tawnies and colheitas).
During its extended ageing in wood, the wine undergoes gentle oxidation, gradually losing its original ruby-red colour and developing a characteristic amber to golden-brown hue. This process gives it its typical softness and complexity. The wine is bottled ready to drink and does not require further ageing in bottle.
Nose: Dense and expressive, with aromas of dried fruits (raisins, figs), accompanied by delicate notes of vanilla, chocolate, and a hint of honey.
Palate: Velvety smooth and full-bodied. Ripe berry fruits, walnuts, and almonds are perfectly balanced by fresh acidity and subtle oak notes.
Finish: Long-lasting, elegant, and warming, with lingering nuances of caramel and roasted nuts.
