Ardbeg Uigeadail (pronounced "Oog-a-dal") is a powerful single malt whisky from the Scottish island of Islay, named after the distillery’s mysterious water source, which in Gaelic means "dark, mysterious place." This award-winning whisky (named World Whisky of the Year by Jim Murray in 2009) is an exclusive composition matured in a mix of traditional ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, bottled at natural cask strength, without chill filtration and without added colouring.
It combines the massive peatiness and smokiness typical of Ardbeg with a surprising sweetness and complexity derived from the sherry cask maturation.
Nose: Dominant, intense peat smoke, combined with sweet raisins, notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and a hint of vanilla and caramel. Herbal and floral notes are also present.
Palate: Full-bodied and rich. Sweet malt and an oily texture are infused with intense smoke and tar. Flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg, bacon, maple syrup, and ripe fruits are well balanced.
Finish: Wonderfully long, warming, and intensely smoky. The lingering sweetness of sherry and aromatic oak notes remain, accompanied by leather and spices.
